The genre I have chose in the end was classical music. I have chosen this because it is extremely good to manipulate for a younger target audience. Typically, classical music magazines try and target mainly older upper class people.
I think it would could break conventions and try to make a classical magazine more appealing for a younger audience, preferably 17-24 age range. I think this would help the classical music target audience expand and become more popular.
From my front cover research, I have been enabled to think of quite a few ideas of what my final product could be. For example; I could use various size text boxes for my masthead, enabling me to create an overlap to make it look more modern and appealing. Due to it being a classical magazine I will use black and white, maybe red, to contrast with one another, breaking conventions slightly.
From my contents page research, a good feature I have found is that I should relate it to my front cover as both are the main sections of the magazine. I think it will be a good idea to break conventions slightly and put the masthead in the top right corner, in a smaller version. This will show brand identity and relate back to the house style.
On the contents page I will be using a wide range of photos of different models, because it will create a wider range of information for the reader to learn about and improve the overall design of the magazines internal area.
From collecting a magazine, front cover, dps and contents page [from a classical music magazine] I learnt that the masthead of a music magazine is very important, as it indicates brand identity and can help catch the readers eye. This helps magazines seem more appealing and makes them become more popular.
The masthead typically relates to the overall genre of the magazine. As I have chosen classical I will need to come up with something relating to the classical music genre and theme.
I have decided I will be using Monika as my model. She will be wearing a black over the shoulder dress with bright red lipstick on, the red breaks conventions because red is not a typical colour you see on a classical magazine front cover . This is a good idea, because it is similar to typical classical music magazines models outfits, the women tend to wear black, long dresses and heels.
When we have our photo shoot, I am going to take as many photos as I can, maybe 40-50 so that I have a wide variety to choose from. This is a good idea because it gives me a wide range to choose from.
After the photo shoot I will be making a mood board of all the photos which I have taken. I will also make a questionnaire with the photos I have taken so people will have to give their choice on which photos I should use when designing my magazine.
From the research I gathered on classical music magazines, I have realised that a lot of the photos and images are set in very bright lighting which helps to bring out the models face. I will be breaking this convention and using natural lighting in a woodlands. This will be effective because it is different to typical classical music magazines.
In the bottom corner I have decided to put a bar code and an advertisement. This is product placement, this will help my magazine become more popular, the advertisement will be specifically aimed at a younger audience.
