CHANGING MY PAGES

After realising my pages were not appropriate for my target audience, I decided to change the star image to make it seem more youthful and attractive to my niche audience.

DPS - MY ARTICLE final draft

So Andrea, where have you been these past five years?
"I'm feeling good, a little exhausted and tired. I have actually been helping my mother who has adopted and been raising an orphan.  Life was so hectic and fast, I just felt I could not exactly cope in the music business and be there for my family. So, I dropped out, I did not want to explain why. I just left, I did not want my family to be bombarded with negative media. We made the decision to hide away and live peaceful lives. It was a great opportunity for me to sit down and write some real music."

Do you think you are ready to be back here so soon?
"Yes, in fact I think I am ready. I am more ready than
I have ever been before, my family has motivated me so much and they pushed me back to this point. I was adamant I would not compose again. But they insisted and said I must, I must fulfill my dreams."

Family seems to of impacted you a lot, do you think your music style might have changed?
"No, I do not think so. I want to keep composing what I know well, I think its too late to change. I feel like, if I made my compositions more modern, I would lose my audiences. I am lucky; my loyal fans are still out there. I have had so many letters and messages begging me to come back. I did not realise how much they needed me. I did not know I was an actual inspiration."

What are you going to do now?
"Now? I am not actually sure. I want to do so much but their just doesn't seem like there is any time during the day anymore. I want tour again. I think that is what I miss the most. I miss the hype, I miss the god awful silence you hear while you perform. And the adrenaline rush you feel when it's over and you are praised is amazing. I miss the fans too, the ones who nervously came to you in the street, shaking a sheet of your music and asking you to sign."

Will we see any future albums or collaborations?
“Maybe. But right now, I want to keep my work a secret. I want to leave my audience with an element of surprise. But,
I will tell you a little hint. There is definitely a new secret album on the way. We, Schirmer Records, and I have got 21 tracks recorded, and we are currently perfecting them and designing the album cover.”

Where do you think you will be in the next five years?
“That's a tough question to be honest. I think I am going to twist it and answer 'Where do I want to be in five years?' And my answer for that is, I want to be in a band, I know longer want to be a solo composer, I want to join an orchestra or maybe form a classical band. Being a solo composer is such a lonely road, and I feel, it would be a lot more fun if I had made friends to share my passion with music with.”

RESEARCH INSTITUTIONS 2 - TIMEINC.

Time Inc. is a New York-based publishing company. It owns and publishes over 90 magazine brands, most notably its namesake Time. It was founded on November 28th, 1922. In 1990, Time Inc. merged with Warner Communications to form the media institution, Time Warner. This merger lasted until the company was spun off on June 9, 2014.
It also owns the UK magazine house Time Inc. The UK, whose major titles include What's On TV, NME, Country Life, Wallpaper etc. It's the world's second largest media with a large amount of internet, publishing, film and television after Disney. In 1990 Time Inc. became Time Warner. This is because they merged with Warner Communications, this merger lasted until the 9th of June 2014.
Time Inc. audience covers a lot of interests.
For example, an interest for women is celebrities, is fashion, health and beauty. This is good for attracting a female audience because it is generally what females look for in magazines. Something very feminine and relatable
TimeInc also publishes magazines for a male audience. A lot of these are sporting/hobby magazines. This is good for attracting a male audience because men usually see magazines as a very feminine thing, so publishing these [magazines more focused around the male eye] will enable a larger audience.

CONSOLIDATING MY IDEAS RESEARCH - DPS

I would like there to be a lot of white-space around the image on my DPS page, this is because I think the main focus should be the image on that side of the page. I will be using the same colour scheme throughout my three pages, creating synergy.

The photo I will be using will be in a sophisticated style, I will be using either a location shot, or I will be using a using a studio shot. I have not decided yet.

I think I will use left justification in text as it is easier to style. I think a couple drop capitals will be effective in the middle of the text, this is because it will give the audience an insight to the article and will draw their attention more to the text.

CONSOLIDATING MY IDEAS RESEARCH - CONTENTS PAGE

On my contents page, i want to make it very busy, tight and compact. For examples I would like all the text on one side, and on the other, I would like the images. I feel like this will make it very tidy, yet also look very full.

I would like there to also be some synergy between my magazine front cover and contents page. I would like the puff colour to be the same as the page number colour. This is so that the reader is still aware of what they are reading.

I think it would be a good idea to make it very clear on the genre of my magazine, this is so the reader doesn't lose focus on what the magazine is actually about.

I would like multiple photos on my contents page, almost like a collage on the side of the page.

I think the colour scheme on the contents page should be exactly the same as the front cover, I think this would be good synergy. I also would to add small details, for example; an editors note, social media links, subscribe links etc.

CONSOLIDATING MY IDEAS RESEARCH - FRONT COVER

My conclusions from all of the front covers that I have researched:

I would like my front cover to have a range of cover stories and bright colours, as it would be more appealing to my target audience because it is not something you would usually see, because on classical magazines, you mainly see basic colour schemes.

Having attractive cover stories would ensure that the reader would be interested in purchasing my magazine. I would like a lot of colour, as this is not a conventional feature of classical magazines.

I also know that puffs are a good idea, and to have them specifically placed is good for effect. I will apply this to my puffs, so they are knowledgeable and relate to the articles inside.

I think I should break conventions with my masthead and make it 3D, this is because I am trying to attract a younger audience to what is stereo-typically the audience of classical magazines.

I think the main picture would be effective in the middle of the page, this is because it will then grab the most attention.

I know the importance of picking a good layout and white-space, so I will try to make it proportional so it fits my magazine genre.
